SHG Savings & Micro Credit Programme:
It was the members of the women groups promoted by SPS decided to start weekly compulsory savings with prime objective of having their own group fund base. SPS just helped them in developing their savings habit and provide them micro credit services at their doorsteps. Because, the poor need small loan very often t meet their emergency requirement. As they generally do not have any valuable to impawn and also they are not in a position to give any collateral to the bank who charge much less rate of interest, they generally opt for taking loan from the local money lenders who charge them exorbitantly.
The rate of interest taken on the loan given by these moneylenders varies from 60% to 365% per annum. In spite of knowing all these, the people are being forced to take loan from the blood-sucking moneylenders to tackle their emergency requirement or for expansion of their existing business endeavors
The said micro credit was started in the with the members of only ten groups in the project area. Seeing the benefit of this programme mane more members of women of the project area came forward to form their own Self Help Groups and started compulsory weekly savings. Till date we have been successful to form numbers of SHGs comprised with members. A have been collected as compulsory savings from these SHGs members during this reference period and it was revolve among these members it self as loan assistant minimum rate of interest for helping to undertake different income generating activities to become economically self reliant.
In spite of lots of hurdles and impediments on the way, the micro credit programme of SPS was provided very much beneficial for the poor people of our project area. Many of these beneficiaries have already set up their business enterprise, which are functioning very successfully and helped them to become economically self reliant. Up gradation of there economic status has enhance their social status also.
